Materials, care and size

MATERIALS
Good quality wood with a smooth finish. The ends of the pieces are painted in colours.

SIZE
Board: 16.5 cm across, 1.8 cm thick.
Pieces: 4.5 cm tall.
Dice: 1.5 cm.

NUMBER OF PIECES
The maker doesn't state the number. The photos show roughly 24-32 pieces across six colours. Email us before you order if the exact number matters and we'll count them.

AGE
From 3 years.

WHERE IT WORKS
At home, at nursery and travelling. The board is small enough to go in a bag.

CARE
Wipe with a slightly damp cloth. Don't put the wooden pieces in water.

SAFETY
The pieces are 4.5 cm and small enough for a younger child to choke on. Keep the game away from siblings under 3, and collect the pieces up after playing.

How do you play?

The pieces stand in the holes with the coloured end facing down. You take turns rolling the colour dice and lifting a piece to see whether the colour matches. If it does, you keep the piece. The trick is remembering where the colours you've already seen are.

How many can play?

The maker doesn't put a number on it. In practice it works with two up to four or five players. More than that and the wait between turns is too long for a small child to stay focused.

What age is it for?

The maker says from 3 years. Since the game is only about matching colours, a three-year-old can play straight away without reading or counting, and their memory is often better than the adult's.

Can it be used for anything besides the memory game?

Yes. The pieces often get used for sorting by colour, counting and building. The wooden design is simple enough to take being used for something other than what the instructions said.
