What does it do?

It rocks from side to side in a dancing motion, plays music and glows with LEDs. It all starts with one press, so your child can start and stop the play themselves.
Does it need batteries?

Yes, 3 AA batteries, and they aren't in the pack. Do buy them in advance if the duck is being wrapped for a birthday. It's a long way from opening the present to playing if you have to go shopping first.
What age is it for?

The maker says 1-5 years, and that's what we'd recommend too. The youngest are most taken with the light and the sound, while older children start it themselves and build play around it.
What does the play teach?

Your child follows something that moves and works out that a press produces a reaction, which is cause and effect at its simplest. On top of that, a child who's starting to walk will happily follow something that moves away.
