How well does it magnify?

The maker doesn't give a magnification, and we won't guess at a number. The lid of the terrarium has a lens that can be adjusted so the insect can be seen clearly, and separate magnifiers are included for looking at something that hasn't been caught.
Can insects stay in it for long?

They shouldn't. The terrarium is for looking at something for a quarter of an hour and then setting it free again in the same spot. There are air vents in the lid, but a small plastic box gets hot quickly, and most insects need moisture and food that aren't in there.
What age is it for?

The maker doesn't give an age. In practice it works from about four or five, when a child can use tweezers gently and understand that the insect has to be let go again. Younger children can easily join in when an adult handles the catching.
